Before preparing your application, review the following information carefully to make sure that both your organization and your proposed project are eligible for funding under Call 4 of the Broadband Fund.
Who can apply
To be eligible for funding under Call 4, you must be one of the following types of applicants:
- a band council or an Indigenous government
- a Canadian corporation (for-profit or not-for-profit)
- a Canadian provincial, territorial or municipal entity (or a public body established by law and wholly owned by one of these governments)
- a partnership, joint venture or consortium composed of any of the entities listed above (an applicant group)
You may submit more than one project proposal under Call 4. Each project must be submitted as a separate application, and each application must serve a different geographic area.
In addition to being an eligible organization, you must also:
- be eligible to operate as a Canadian carrier
- be financially solvent and reliable
- have a minimum of three years of experience deploying and operating broadband infrastructure in Canada, or will rely on a supplier or contractor who has that required experience
What types of projects are eligible
Call 4 will fund projects that aim to improve broadband connectivity in underserved areas. Projects must fall under one or more of the following categories and must serve eligible geographic areas:
- universal service objective projects (USO projects) that propose to provide new or improved fixed broadband Internet access service of at least 50/10 Mbps to Canadian households
- satellite‑dependent community (SDC) projects, as defined below:
- projects that propose to increase satellite transport capacity to improve telecommunications service speeds beyond the highest speeds currently available (operational expenses only)
- capital projects that propose to build or upgrade earth station equipment and/or access infrastructure to improve telecommunications services
