Acts and regulations

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) is an independent quasi-judicial tribunal that regulates the Canadian communications sector in the public interest.

Our mandate is given to us by the Parliament of Canada and administered through the Minister of Canadian Heritage. We supervise and regulate over 2,000 broadcasters, including TV services, AM and FM radio stations, and the companies that bring these services to you. We also regulate telecommunications service providers, including Internet, cellphone and telephone service providers.

For information about the operations, resources to the public, departmental result indicators and programs of the CRTC, consult our transparency page.

What we’re doing

The CRTC holds public consultations on telecommunications and broadcasting matters and make decisions based on the public record. We have a wide range of responsibilities, including under the Telecommunications Act, the Broadcasting Act, the Online News Act, and Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).
