Privacy Notice Statement & Attestation for the Data Collection System

1. Why Your Information Is Collected and How It Is Used

Your personal information is collected under the Telecommunications Act, the Broadcasting Act, and the Statistics Act. All collection, use, and disclosure follow the federal Privacy Act, and your information may be disclosed without consent in specific situations allowed under subsection 8(2).

The information you provide is used to maintain and update contact details for Canadian carriers required to register with the Commission and/or Statistics Canada. It is processed by the CRTC’s Information and Technology Management Directorate and retained for up to 10 years.

2. Your Rights and How to Contact Us

You have the right to access your personal information, request corrections, or withdraw your participation after submitting your information. To do this, contact the DCS helpdesk at cd-dc@crtc.gc.ca or call (819) 997‑4597 or 1‑866‑845‑6036 (toll‑free). Additional information on access rights is available through InfoSource.

If you need clarification about this notice, contact the CRTC Privacy Coordinator at (819) 994‑5444 or 1‑800‑282‑1376. General privacy information is available on the Privacy Commissioner’s website.

3. Saving, Submitting, and Protecting Your Information

The system includes an optional “Save” feature that lets you work over multiple sessions. Saved data is stored on a CRTC server and can be changed or deleted before submission. Your information becomes final only once you select “Submit.” If you choose to submit your information through another method, your privacy is protected in the same way.

To help protect your own privacy, provide only the required information, keep your login credentials private, choose secure passwords, and avoid using personal details such as names or dates. Change your password every three to six months, avoid leaving your computer unattended while logged in, and close your browser when finished. If you are using a shared computer, clear the cache at the end of your session.

4. How the CRTC Protects System Security

To maintain website security, the CRTC uses software that monitors network traffic and identifies unauthorized attempts to modify or damage information. The software records IP addresses, visit times, and pages viewed. This information is not linked to your identity unless a security issue is detected.
