Subject: Part 1 application regarding Canadian Broadcasting Corporation programming – Confirmation of return

Dear Kevin Robbie,

Thank you for your application dated 6 November 2025, and follow-up correspondence regarding the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s (CBC) reporting on Your World Tonight, which aired on June 19, 2025.

As you know, the CBC’s licence was most recently renewed in Broadcasting Decision 2022-165. The licence renewal decision establishes that complaints about the CBC’s programming must be brought to the CBC Ombud first. The CBC Ombud plays an important independent oversight role and is responsible for examining complaints based on the CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices. The CBC Ombud is currently reviewing your complaint under this framework.

Accordingly, the Commission is returning your Part 1 application. If there is a concern about the CBC Ombud’s decision, your complaint can be brought to the Commission. At that time, the Commission can review the complaint under its own framework and authority under the Broadcasting Act.

Thank you for taking the time to bring this important matter to our attention.

Sincerely,

Marc Morin
Secretary General and Executive Vice-President
