Subject: Improving the routing of 9-8-8 calls and texts, Telecom Notice of Consultation CRTC 2025-20 –Procedural Request - Extension of deadline to file replies to the request for information issued 18 June 2025
Mr. Beatty,
On 11 August 2025, the Commission received a letter from the Deaf Wireless Canada Consultative Committee (DWCC) requesting an extension to a deadline in this proceeding. The deadline is for filing replies to the request for information (RFI) issued 18 June 2025. DWCC requested that the deadline be extended from 13 August 2025 to 25 August 2025.
The DWCC submitted that the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) did not serve its response to the RFI on DWCC, and this is contrary to Rule 31(1) of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission Rules of Practice and Procedure (the Rules). Further, the DWCC submitted that it needs to consult with a team member that is currently on vacation to prepare its reply. The DWCC also submitted that granting its request for an extension would uphold the integrity of the proceeding.
Commission staff notes that the Rules do not require parties to serve all other parties with materials filed with the Commission following a Commission staff request for information, either at Rule 31(1) or otherwise. Instead, Commission staff posts on the Commission website any materials filed shortly after they have been received, and parties should be checking the website regularly following a process deadline. In line with this practice, CAMH’s response to the RFI was posted on the Commission’s website on 7 August 2025 as part of the public record of the proceeding.
Nevertheless, since the DWCC did not immediately see the response and needs to consult with its team member that is away, Commission staff considers that an extension would help ensure a complete record by providing adequate time for all parties to reply to CAMH’s response.
Accordingly, the deadline for all parties to reply to CAMH’s response to the RFI issued 18 June 2025 will be extended to 25 August 2025.
Sincerely,
