Subject: Proposed withdrawal of Call Break-in service in multiple Tariff Notices – Extension request
On 2 July 2025, the Commission received an application from Bell Canada, on behalf of itself and its affiliates, Bell MTS; Bell Aliant Regional Communications, Limited Partnership; Télébec, Société en commandite; Dryden Municipal Telephone System; Kenora Municipal Telephone System; and Northwestel Inc. (hereafter, the Bell companies) in which the Bell companies proposed changes to their respective applicable tariffsFootnote 1 to withdraw the Call Break-in service.
In their application, the Bell companies, requested an exception to the standard requirements set out in Approval process for tariff applications and intercarrier agreements, Telecom Information Bulletin CRTC 2010-455-1, so that they could post notifications of the withdrawal on their websites and continue to notify customers verbally as requests for the service come in until the date of the services withdrawal.
On 1 August 2025, the Bell Companies, in a reply to a request for information, requested an extension of the comment period so customers could have more time to submit their comments to 29 September 2025 and an extension of the implementation date for the withdrawal to 14 October 2025.
Commission staff considers it important for customers to be notified of the proposed withdrawal and that the proposed deadlines are acceptable. Consequently, customers will have until 29 September 2025 to submit comments on the Bell companies’ proposal. The Bell companies are to file reply comments by 9 October 2025.
Yours sincerely,
